Review: The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena

If you thought The Girl on the Train kept you on your toes, wait til you meet The Couple Next Door!! THIS is the thriller I’ve been seeking all summer! I read this book in two days, and believe me, with my heavy school workload this semester, that says a lot about this book. I could not put it down. I read the first half of it in one sitting.

Anne and Marco are just a normal couple with a new baby girl on a nice street in a nice neighborhood. Everything about them screams stereotypical middle class family. Except not everything or everyone is always as they seem, are they?

That’s all I will say about the plot of this book because there were so many surprises and twists that I am really afraid to give away any little detail that might spoil a surprise for you while you’re reading it.

I will say that the main characters were strongly written and relatable and seemed very human and flawed. The writing was great including good, believable dialogue and short chapters, which I love with thrillers because nothing feels too drawn out or like it’s dragging along. This appears to be Ms. Lapena’s first book but I sincerely hope it’s not her last!

I did not pull a favorite quote or passage from this book because, again, I am too afraid of inadvertently giving away a spoiler! That’s how good and packed with surprises this book was!

My Review: 5 out of 5 stars! Read it!!
