A Reader’s Report/ Manuscript Critique:
A Reader’s Report is a one to two page report on the manuscript including the plot summary and pros and cons of the story. This can be especially helpful when a manuscript is newly completed and the author has not received a lot of feedback yet. For example, if the plot summary on the report does not line up with your intention or vision of the story, then that is a good indication that you have some revising to do in order to make your ideas clear to your audience. A reader’s report does not include any editing services – there will be no marks or notations on the text, no proofreading, and no developmental editing. I will advise if several grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors are present to let you know that you might want to consider seeking proofreading or editorial services prior to self-publishing or submitting to an agent or publisher, but I will not point out the individual errors. A reader’s report can be helpful at any stage of the writing process, whether the manuscript is newly completed or whether the book has been published for a while and is not receiving ideal reviews or comments. This report can help you to better understand what is and is not working and why. Please note that this is not a review of the manuscript. The report will not state my personal opinion about whether or not I liked your manuscript or did not like it. It will be a professional critique of the story, what works, and what might need revising in order to make it understandable, relatable, and appealing to an audience. I will not be posting any reviews or commentary to any online websites such as Amazon or Goodreads.
Flat Fee of $200 for manuscripts/ books 50,000 words (approx. 200 pgs) or less
Flat Fee of $400 for manuscripts/ books between 50,000 – 100,000 words (approx. 200- 400 pgs)

I am willing to consider shorter works for a lesser fee depending on the word count. For example, if you have two middle grade books that are approximately 20,000 to 25,000 words each for a total of approximately 50,000 words, we can work out a price to include both books rather than two separate $200 fees. Just contact me for a quote if you have any questions!
Proofreading/ Basic Copy Editing:
Proofreading/ Basic Copy Editing includes checking for repetitive words or phrases; inconsistencies with capitalization, names, and spelling; errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. It is most often used by writers at the beginning or end stages of their journey to publishing. Proofreading is often sought by writers just after completing their manuscript who want to be sure it is technically clean before getting feedback on the creative and developmental aspects of the piece. Proofreading is also often sought by writers who have already had their work developmentally edited and are looking to put a final polish on their work before sending it off to agents or publishers or before self-publishing. Regardless of where you fall in this timeline, I welcome the opportunity to proofread and help polish your work.
Please note that my proofreading services do not include fact checking or research of any kind and will include only comments and notes pertaining to spelling, grammar, punctuation, repetition, and consistency with capitalization. No developmental editing in regards to plot development, flow of the story, character development, etc. is included with this service. If you have any questions regarding what is included with proofreading or are looking for a specific service, please feel free to contact me.
Developmental editing is when I read through your manuscript or book twice, making specific notes and comments in regards to the creative aspect of the story. The first time I read the book, it is to get an understanding of the plot and to get a feel for the flow and pace of the story. The second time, I will make specific comments and notes on the text in regards to plot development, character development, character consistency (physical traits, nicknames, manner of speaking, etc.), syntax, and other elements that contribute to the overall “experience” of the story. To get a better understanding of what is included with developmental editing, I will have FAQs posted to the website shortly. In the meantime, feel free to contact me with any questions!
If you would like both proofreading and developmental editing, the rate is $45/ hr
Online Content and Other Forms of Writing:
I also provide proofreading and editorial services for blogs, online newspapers and magazines, and weekly or monthly newsletters. These forms of writing differ greatly in length, frequency, and audience, so it is best to contact me with a description of your project and what specifically you are looking for to receive a quote.
This is by no means a complete listing of the forms of writing I edit. Always include a synopsis (including genre and target audience), word count, and page count with your request.
