August Wrap-Up!

The Witch Ways

Well August turned out to be a very busy month for me, as I suspected it would be. But I’m not complaining. Quite the opposite actually. I’m very thankful for all of the writing and editing opportunities that have come my way recently, though I’m also looking forward to stepping back a bit and having time to read and relax again. I wrote three posts in August (four if you count my July wrap-up!) and here’s the recap in case you missed any of them.

Book Reviews

I was thrilled when I received an early copy of An Anonymous Girl, the newest psychological thriller from Sarah Pekkanen and Greer Hendricks. This was a very suspenseful read with some great twists and a surprise ending. If you enjoy these kind of “mess with your mind” thrillers and mysteries, you should definitely check it out!

Work has kept me busy writing and editing, and I’ve received several early copies and review copies of new and upcoming books. I always try to prioritize those since a big part of why they’re sent to me is to help create buzz around the books as they are released or soon-to-be-released. Simply put, ARCs get priority over TBRs.

While I was able to sneak in a couple of new reads, I haven’t made it to my book bucket list pick, Wuthering Heights, yet. Notice I said yet! I am determined to get to this book and the others on my list for the rest of the year, though when exactly I will get to them remains to be determined. Here are the books remaining on my list for 2018:

  • August: Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
  • September: Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris
  • October: The Shining by Stephen King
  • November: Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
  • December: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

I have a feeling that I’m going to go from getting no book bucket list reads in one month to getting multiple reads in another month. And that’s just fine with me. I can’t wait to check these last few reads off my book bucket list! I am determined to read The Shining in October and A Christmas Carol in December as scheduled since they are more “seasonal” reads. The others I will probably sneak in here and there.

Book-Related Posts

Even though I haven’t had many reviews to post lately, I’ve been enjoying diving into some other bookish topics like my post about Why I Love Reading the Young Adult Genre and my most recent post about my first experience with scary books. It appears these posts resonated with readers as I have gained many new subscribers to the blog lately. I’d like to take a moment to say thank you and welcome to all the newcomers! I hope you enjoy my past and future posts!

Next Up…

I wish I could say for sure what reviews will be forthcoming, but I’m still quite busy at the moment and prioritizing ARCs. I have received an early copy of What You Hide by Natalie D. Richards, an upcoming YA release from Sourcebooks Fire as well as Slow Poison by Helen Slavin, the upcoming second installment in The Witch Ways series from Agora Books. So expect to see those reviews soon. Other than that, it will be a balancing act between life, work, and reading as is so often the case!
